With command central strategically placed in this more convenient location, you can navigate your music--and activate the VoiceOver feature--without taking your eyes off your run, your ride, or whatever you're doing. iPod shuffle includes these easy-access controls, but you can also use headphones with similar controls from manufacturers like Scosche, Klipsch, V-MODA, and Belkin. Customer ReviewsCustomer Reviews "Terrible Headphones" 2009-11-02 By Bryan L. Almond (Richmond, VA USA) I'll keep this short. I liked the fact that you could create playlists and, once you get the hang of the controls, it was easy to select the music you wanted to hear. The headphones on the other hand are complete garbage. One earbud is nearly silent, it's like I'm just wearing an earplug in one ear. So, basically this thing is putting out mono quality sound. I haven't even used this while exercising so my problem isn't the result of getting moisture in the control. This is the worst $50 I've ever spent. I read the bad reviews before buying and thought I'd still give it a chance because I might get lucky. Do yourself a favor, save your money becaues odds are you're going to get burned. "Made for Runners? I think not." 2009-11-01 By Ellen Jaffe Jones (Anna Maria Island, FL) I was really disappointed to learn after I bought this new Shuffle that it came with the standard Apple earphones that have never fit my ears. Not even close. And like so many others who have written before me, after I bought the new Shuffle, I had to spend more bucks to order the custom adapter that fits between the Shuffle and my own earphones that do work. The previous Shuffles used my Walmart headphones just fine without an adapter. The Walmart version of the adapter didn't work, so after I returned those, I had to buy Apple's version.
It worked on 2 weeks worth of training runs before my first half marathon that I ran yesterday. And just as someone else said, at mile 5, the songs started playing erratically. Then I couldn't get the adapter, which has all the controls on it to work. Like any geek, I unplugged the headset and adapter from the Shuffle, thinking it might reset. Instead, it started the play-list all over again from the very beginning. So I got to listen to all the same songs, since the adapter's controls wouldn't work at all. As the previous reviewer said, it seemed either sweat or humidity somehow affected the adapter. I really don't think in this case it was sweat. But the FL humidity was at 80%. So should Fl runners not buy this model? Probably not. Unlike the other reviewer, I did not throw the device or any parts on the ground. Though I laughed when I read that because I had the exact same thought at the time.
My old square Shuffle worked fine and through long hours/runs until one day it just wouldn't take the downloads any more. I'll try to chill and remember the days of Walkmans, but really, this cost good money and you should save yours. My experience Apple iPod shuffle 2 GB Pink (4th Generation) NEWEST MODELwill be a not-so-fond remembrance of an life important event that otherwise was wonderful. "Let down badly by the earphones" 2009-11-01 By Platofish I bought this model shuffle mainly to use at the gym. In part because this shuffle is so small and partly because leaving a $79 ipod in a locker its not a big deal compared to leaving a more expensive ipod touch. I owned several earlier models of shuffle and found them to be ideal for this purpose. The new version looked to be even 'more ideal', plus I liked the idea of being able to adjust volume and change tracks using a remote control on the earphone cord, rather than having to locate the ipod.
The shuffle itself is excellent (and a beautiful piece of design). However, the remote controls on the earphones - essential for using the shuffle - are not waterproof in the slightest. Touching the remote with damp hands causes the shuffle to misbehave badly - it constantly skips tracks, announces playlists and track titles over and over, etc. etc. Basically, if the remote gets slightly moist the shuffle is unusable for hours.
The original earphones lasted 5 trips to the gym before the remote stopped working completely. The $79 Apple upgrades earphones I bought to replace them lasted two trips - I was careful to not touch the remote; just being in close proximity to water vapor was enough to break the remote.
Belkin now sells an adaptor/remote for sale for $20 that allows you to plug any earphones into the shuffle. If all else fails I'll buy one of these - I'm somewhat reluctant since this would place the remote next to the shuffle, which kinda defeats the purpose of a remote! If I have to dig in my pocket to change track/volume I might as well have an ipod nano (which would also allow me to select particular tracks on a playlist). So, I've just returned my Apple earphones and bought some Klispch earphones that have an ipod shuffle compatible remote. This remote looks much more robust and as far as I can tell less open to moisture.
Bottom line. If you are thinking of buying a shuffle to use while you are running or working out you better factor in at least another $20 for a Belkin remote (which will let you use your existing earphones), or at least twice that price to buy new earphones with a compatible remote. And, if you are not buying the shuffle to wear while you exercise, you would likely be much happier buying an ipod nano. "amazing! easy fix for moister and controls!" 2009-10-31 By tylerzee (florida) ive had it for a week and i love it. u can fix the moister problem by wrapping saranwrap around the controls! "This thing sucks!" 2009-10-31 By Mark Morris (Chicago) Apple's stupid ear buds don't fit my ears and this thing has to use the buds included to control the music. Absolutely no mention of this on the minimalistic, super cool product packaging of course. Worthless. All Reviews |
